DAGUPAN CITY: Malacañang declared today, April 30, a special nonworking holiday in Dagupan by virtue of Proclamation 1282.

One of the new events introduced in this year’s celebration is the pigar-pigar challenge, a competition for the best cook of the dish that is uniquely Dagupeño. Pigar-pigar is thinly sliced beef or carabeef-deep-fried and cooked medium rare and garnished with onion rings, popularly sold at the city’s road shoulders in the evening.

Various concerts have also been lined up during the whole week. Other highlights of this year’s Bangus Festival include Bangus Rodeo (April 29); Gilon!Gilon! Street Dancing (April 29) and Search for Bangus Fest King and Queen (May 1).
